The beakful

Jean-François Millet
Circa 1860
Happiness is in the field

"In Woman Feeding Her Children, I want us to imagine a brood of birds being fed from their mother's beak. The man works to feed these beings". This is how Millet described the subject of this work, both simple and touching. In it, we see a mother feeding her three children, sat on the doorstep of a farm, while the father busies himself digging up the garden in the background.
