Silence, calm and stillness. The atmosphere of this small painting is peaceful, harmonious and almost immaterial. This landscape, which seems to float between two worlds, between reality and abstraction, is the fruit of Seurat's experimentation, located at the frontiers of art and science. Passionate about the latest advances of his time in the field of optical science, Seurat invented a new way of painting, which consisted of juxtaposing colours, without mixing them.
